Summer Reading Program

During Summer 2024, we will be offering our Summer Reading Program for children (pre-K through 6) and adults under the theme, Adventure Begins at Your Library while our Young Adult Summer Reading Program (grades 6-12) will have the theme Your Future Awaits and will focus on career readiness skills as part of the Level Up program, which was developed in partnership with the Mid-Ohio ESC and expanded with financial support from the Ohio Afterschool Network’s Moonshot program and the Friends of the Bucyrus Public Library. Both programs will run from June 3rd through July 13th and are sponsored by the Friends of the Bucyrus Public Library.

Children’s Summer Reading Program

Program Overview:

  • Register at the Children’s Desk at the library on or after June 3rd. You’ll receive your 1st BINGO card, a coupon for free admission to the Ohio State Fair, and a Flat Stanley figure. Color Flat Stanley in and take him along on your vacation/trip & take pictures or send him to a relative in a different state to have an “adventure” and have them send you pictures. Send the photos to klove@bucyruslibrary.org or as a direct message on Facebook/Instagram, and we will post them!
  • For preschoolers, the challenge is to read 10 books a week for 6 weeks. For each 10 books they read, they will earn a Croc charm/jibbit for their bracelet. Once the 6 weeks have been completed, they will receive a food coupon.
  • Preschoolers can also complete a Rainbow Scavenger Hunt outside. They will be given a sheet with different-colored rainbow squares and will need to find items in nature that are those colors. They can tape or adhere to the page and turn it in for a prize. Completed scavenger hunts will be displayed.
  • Elementary readers (K-6) will navigate through 7 weeks of BINGO cards, with each completed card rewarding them with a Croc charm/jibbit for their bracelet and a chance to win exciting prizes at the end of the program. Return completed BINGO cards to Miss Barb and tell her which prize drawing you want to enter.
  • K-6 can also do an Architectural Scavenger Hunt for an additional entry into prize drawings. Pick up a scavenger hunt when you register or any time between June 3 and July 13.
