Teacher Loan Policy

The Bucyrus Public Library would like to encourage you to use our teacher loan policy. Because our materials are limited in some areas, we ask that you obey the following rules:

  1. Special teacher loan cards are required. A special loan period of 4 weeks is built into these cards. Teacher loan cards are kept on file at the circulation desk.
  2. The number of books checked out should not exceed the number of students in your class. The teacher loan cards have an automatic limit of 40 items built into them.
  3. If you have a large collection to return, please return it to the main circulation desk as a courtesy to the library staff. For smaller loans of 10 books or less, feel free to deposit them into the library’s book drops.
  4. The teacher is responsible for the books and will be charged replacement cost, plus a processing fee, if the books are lost. This replacement cost varies. For newer books in the system, this will be the actual price paid for the book by the library. For older books, a default price has been entered. Added on to this replacement cost is a $5.00 NONREFUNDABLE processing fee for EACH book. If the book or books are found at a later date, ONLY the actual price/default price will be refunded. To be issued a refund, you must have a receipt from the library!
  5. Please do not check out all the books on one subject. Be considerate of students/teachers in other schools and other patrons who need information on the same subject.
  6. Books that are checked out on teacher loan should be for classroom use only. Books for personal research should be checked out as regular circulation.
  7. When books are checked out at the circulation desk, a list will be given to the teacher of all the books checked out. This reminder list is to help you get all of the books back to us.
  8. A variety of subjects or areas of study can be pulled together by the Children’s Librarian. Please give at least a week’s notice if you wish to have a collection done. These requests can be taken over the phone. Be sure to specify grade level, number of books desired, and a pick-up date! Just call 419-562-7327, extension 104! Once compiled, these books can be already checked out for you under your teacher loan card and ready for pick-up at the Children’s Department desk on the second floor of the library!

DVDs

The library owns educational and entertainment DVDs. These can be shown to groups as long as no fee is charged. Teachers may check out DVDs for 7 days, which includes the day they are checked out. DVDs are cataloged and may be found in our online catalog. If items are lost or damaged, the teacher will be assessed the replacement price, plus the non-refundable fee of $5.00. Please do not return DVDs to the book drop!
