Local History/Genealogy

The library’s physical collection of genealogy and local history materials is located by the non-fiction on the first floor of the library. It includes microfilm of local newspapers, census records, city directories, obituaries, cemetery records, local history and family narratives, school yearbooks, and genealogy-related periodicals.

Access to the digitized Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum newspapers is available for use in the library only. Browse and search through newspapers from 1850 to the present!

The Sanborn Insurance Maps were originally created for assessing fire insurance liability in urbanized areas in the United States. Access is provided through the Ohio Web Library. Maps of Bucyrus span 1884-1950. Other Crawford County communities represented include Crestline, Galion, and New Washington.

FamilySearch is another website to use for genealogy research, searching records, and making family trees.

Ohio Memory is a collaborative project of the Ohio History Connection and the State Library of Ohio.
